Music and dance enthusiasts alike are in for a treat this September when Resonance String Orchestra join forces with eclectic troupe Travel Art Dance Company to present ‘Musical Bodies’ – works by Jenkins, Tiersen, Mendelssohn, Bartok and Brahms performed with creative improvisation in a fresh, dynamic fusion of sound and movement.
Resonance will accompany the Travel Art dancers as they perform choreographed and improvised dance works. Travel Art Dance Company brings together dancers from diverse backgrounds, including contemporary dance, classical ballet, improvisation, creative dance, yoga, gymnastics, circus and martial arts. Their engaging and thought-provoking performance style will be illuminated against the backdrop of works by classical and contemporary composers, brought to life by the luscious sounds of Resonance String Orchestra, the Resonance Senior Strings and Quartet Conspirito.

Embracing Spirit presents Acts of Love: Sacred Connections, an annual, multi-cultural, collaborative, community arts event in support of St Kilda Gatehouse – a not for profit organisation which works alongside those involved in street sex work who are often marginalised and have life controlling addictions.
Join us as we take you on a journey through visual art, song, dance, spoken word, sound and the performance arts to express what we value most as a community and explore the questions: What is sacred? How do we connect with the sacred? How do we nurture and nourish these sacred connections?
Featuring a Sacred Art Gallery, Soul Services Raffle, live music, dance and performance arts, poetry/ spoken word and much more, this event is a feast for your senses!! All proceeds from this event will be donated to St Kilda Gatehouse in support of the essential work they do in providing a place where the sex workers in Melbourne can find the support and care needed as they attempt to build a life off the streets and beyond drug addiction.
The event is also a platform for people from all walks of life to experience dance and the performance arts and we are honoured to support the women at WIRE – Women’s Information and Referral Exchange to experience the joy of dance and artistic expression as they join us for this event along with a diverse range of talented local artists, visual artists and performers.

Travel Art Dance Company is ten years old! We would like to invite friends, families, dancers, collaborators, audience members and anyone else who’s been part of the Travel Art journey over the years to join us for a little gathering to celebrate on Sunday December 1. We will be at Dancehouse (upstairs), 150 Princes St Carlton – rough running order for the afternoon/evening below. You’re more than welcome to join us for as much or as little as you would like to, and to come and go as you please.
During the afternoon we will have some of the first finished works from our collaborative photography project on display in the gallery space, so for those who want to drop in to have a look and say hello we’ll be there from 3:30 onwards.
For those who are around later in the day, we will have a welcome and brief talk about the photography project in the gallery space at 5:00, and we will also be holding an “Any Requests?” showing in the upstairs studio at 6:00. If you are coming to the showing, do please feel free to bring a request – this can be a piece of music, object, image, spoken word, direction/instruction, etc… Basically anything you would like to see in improvised dance form. And if your request happens to have something to do with either Travel Art, birthdays or the number ten, then so much the better!
It should be a lovely event – we look forward to seeing you there.
